General Information About the Media Co-op

The Kane County Regional Office of Education provides Kane County educators access to teaching resources through the KCROE Visual Media Co-Operative which was established in 1938. The Co-op provides educators with over 2000 titles which are available for circulation. These titles include:

  • 16mm films
  • Video tapes
  • Laser Disks

The co-operative is available for all public and non-public educational institutions in Kane County. in 1995-96 there were a total of over 6500 requests for media, a demonstration that the service is highly valued by teachers as a support for their instructional programs.

The nine District Superintendents act as the Board of Directors for the Co-op. A representative from each of the nine districts and one representative for non-public schools serve as the Advisory Committee.

Funding and Fees For Using the Media Co-op

Funding for the Co-operative is obtained through member district fees based on their usage. Current fees are:

$2.96 per title per week

$5.00 late fee

How to Access the Materials

Any teacher interested in access any of the media should contact their school Learning Center/Library Director who has a catalog of all the available media listed by topic categories. Requests for these materials must be made in advance to ensure their availablity and to ensure that delivery can be arranged using the weekly delivery schedule. The materials may be issued for one or twwo week intervals.

If you would like a catalog of the titles in the collection or if you have questions about this service, contact the Kane County ROE, 630-232-5955.

The Pick Up and Delivery Schedule

Every Friday during the school year the district returns the media they have used to the Kane County Visual Media Co-op facility at the Kane County Government Center in Geneva, IL. Over the weekend staff replace all the media into inventory and select the media that have been requested for the next week. These new selections are bagged for each district which sends their staff to the facility on Monday mornings to retreive their materials and bring them to the appropriate school site.
