New Principal Mentoring Program
Mentor Requirements
Experienced principals who are interested in becoming a mentor should contact the Kane County Regional Office of Education. Eligible candidates (those who have been successful Illinois principals) and those who meet the required criteria will be asked to complete an application packet. Selected individuals would then participate in an interview used primarily to determine past experiences in various learning environments, philosophies, strengths, etc., so appropriate matches can be made with a new principal. Following completion of the application packet and an interview, a review of the potential mentor’s resume’ and references will take place. Placement with a mentee will be jointly determined by the New Principal Mentor coordinator and the school district requesting services.
Mentor requirements include the following:
- Completion of a minimum of three years as a building principal
- Participation in the required foundational training course
- Evidence of an active Type 75 certificate
- Participation in a minimum of four Kane County ROE mentor meetings
- Attendance at an annual refresher training
- Evidence of being a current administrator, a retired administrator within the past five years or currently serving in an educational setting as a retired administrator
- Completion of state surveys, reports and logs
- Willingness to meet with the new principal at least four times during the year (within two weeks of being assigned, mid year, end of year and a faculty meeting)
Mentors will be compensated for their service at the end of the year $3000.00 per new principal.
