National and State Endorsement for PBIS

PBIS is one of only a handful of research-based approaches recommended by the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice for creating Safe and Effective Schools. (See the National publication Safeguarding Our Youth: An Action Guide at www.ed.gov)

The Illinois Youth AT-Risk Commission in a Final Report to the Illinois General Assembly highlights PBIS as an effective school-based systems approach to addressing the needs of at-risk youth and children with specialized needs. (See Youth At-Risk Commission Report at www.ag.state.il.us)

The U.S. Department of Education has established a National center for the purposes of developing and documenting the outcomes of school-wide disciplinary practices based on PBIS and that Illinois has been selected by the National center to participate as an "exemplary" site for statewide implementation of PBIS. (See www.PBIS.org)

Professional Endorsement for PBIS

"The numbers don't lie. I was naturally skeptical about PBIS coming in as a new administrator. I had never seen anything like this, but the statistics prove that the more students are nominated for positive behavior, the fewer problems teachers have with behaviors."
Brett S. Gayer, Principal Martinsville Jr/Sr High School
